About Poorba
On a beautiful fall evening of Friday, October 29, 2021, community members of Mountain House — mostly Bengalis from India — instituted Poorba to establish a cultural and social base here in the United States. As a non-profit, Poorba stands as the foremost organization of all Bengalis in San Joaquin County.
We are driven to promote the rich and vibrant culture of Bengal and North East India in the United States, while working hand-in-glove with the local community to serve and give back to people of every ethnic background — through literary programs, art, music, drama, dance, sports, and active philanthropy.

For this volunteer-run organization rooted in Mountain House, compassion is’t an event – it’s a way of life. Every season brings a new reason to give, every initiative a new chance to unite neighbors, and every volunteer a new opportunity to lead with heart.
While others may debate or doubt, Poorba quietly continues doing what it has always done – serving with purpose, transparency, and integrity. From environmental responsibility to youth empowerment, from supporting the homeless to nurturing young minds, Poorba’s story through 2024 and 2025 has been one of unwavering commitment to the people and spirit of Mountain House.
